Organizations Overview Kei Kobayashi (jazz vocalist) Kei Kobayashi
Born in Tokyo on May 9, 1979. Both his grandfather and parents grew up in a family of jazz musicians, and started working at jazz clubs in Tokyo as teenagers. At the age of 20, he won first place in the swing journal magazine's popular voting male jazz vocalist category, and in the same year he made his major debut as a "20-year-old genius vocalist" with "Somethin'else/ Toshiba EMI current: Universal Music". In addition to the magazine's Gold Disc, he has won numerous awards such as the Japan Jazz Vocal Award, the Jazz Disc Award, and the Japan Gold Disc Grand Prize. In 2001, he became the youngest to lead his own group to New York Blue Note. In the same year, he performed a feat of singing "Kimigayo" at the Opening Ceremony of the Yakultoh Giants at Jingu Stadium and the 02 opening game of U.S.-Japan baseball held at Tokyo Dome the following year. By the age of 25, he had recorded more than 100 standard songs and became a leader in the jazz vocal boom. For 10 years, he launched his own label twinKle note in Pony Canyon and released many times. As a jazz standard evangelist, he interprets songs that make use of the beauty of the original pieces, and his vocal style of implorising on an equal basis with musicians on a scat continues to be supported by a wide range of listeners and musicians.
